All this week we’re taking a look back at Nintendo and Camelot’s Mario Tennis series in honour of the release of Mario Tennis Open on the 3DS.

Today, myself and my brother Andrew revisit Mazza’s unseeded debut on the Nintendo 64, 2000′s Mario Tennis.

ThumbnailI can’t think of a genre more deceptively fun than the management sim. Okay, maybe ‘fun’ isn’t the right word. As dull as they might sound on paper, the likes of Theme Park and Championship Manager can be as addictive as the best RPGs. Based around strategy and grounded in real business practices, the genre continues [...]

Just out of interest, are you using the HD texture pack? I’ve noticed loading and saving times greatly increase on my machine lately, I’m thinking it was that but just wondering if it’s effected anyone else?

A sobering article there, Mark. Nicely done/

I skipped Oblivion so I’m not feeling any Elder Scrolls fatigue with Skyrim, but I can understand your view point. I find the levelling system exceptionally addictive. It always feels like you’re just minutes away from getting that next new skill or crafting ability. I’d be interested to hear on which platform you are playing [...]

ThumbnailThis marks the first time that we induct a whole soundtrack into the Musical Showcase vault. This score is so good that it would be impossible to elevate just one of its track above all others. Let’s remember the music of Sega’s side-scrolling Mega Drive brawler, Streets of Rage 2. Series composer Yuzo Koshiro may not [...]

    Good work, Rich.

It seems like they’ve been previewing and doing interviews for this game for years now. Even I’ve spoken to some of the team about it.

It needs to come out.. and soon.

Even on my renegade playthrough I didn’t see any of these scenes. That was mainly thanks to Wrex being out of the picture though. I managed to talk Mordin down from curing the Genophage.

Warning: major spoilers within. Your choices have consequences in the Mass Effect trilogy. Ignore what the haters of Mass Effect 3′s ending are saying; it’s during the game itself where all your decisions pay off, be they through positive or negative outcomes. And boy, are there some intense negative ones. Unless you were playing a renegade [...]

Thumbnail It’s no understatement to say that there’s a lot going on in Mass Effect 3. Story-wise the galaxy is on the brink of destruction. The fabled machine race known as the Reapers are laying waste to all organic life in the Milky Way. Commander Shepard is tasked with the oh-so-simple goal of uniting every major race [...]

  • James Day commented on the blog post GAME over?   2 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Its also worth noting that GAME Group also own Gameplay.co.uk who have also cancelled all Mass Effect 3 pre-orders and are presumably also circling the drain.

  • James Day wrote a new blog post: Soulcalibur V   3 months, 1 week ago · View

Thumbnail Does the soul still burn for the long-running fighting series? When a developer makes drastic changes to a competitive game series it will often cause controversy and prove alienating for long time fans. That’s been the reaction among the Soul Calibur community in regards to Soul Calibur V. Though developer Project Soul has kept the core [...]

ThumbnailWith much of the U.K. currently covered in a thick blanket of snow let’s look back at another classic wintery track from the world of video games. Ladies and gents, I give you the Ice Cap Zone theme from Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The stage itself opens with our titular spiny hero (having been fired out [...]

I’ve heard great things about this. Now it’s on Steam I’ll have to pick it up.

  • James Day commented on the blog post Game Night   4 months, 1 week ago · View

I’ll probably be there on Wednesday evening but only for an hour or two.

Gears 3 is pretty much my only 360 online game at the moment (if you don’t include to 2 player Saints Row 3).

Soul Calibur V is out soon though.

  • James Day commented on the blog post Game in trouble   4 months, 1 week ago · View

It boggles my mind that Game Group continue to do so poorly despite having the monopoly when it comes dedicated high street game shops.

HMV are also in trouble even though they stock games, music, DVDs/Blu-rays, electronics and all sorts of things.

  • James Day commented on the blog post Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe   4 months, 2 weeks ago · View

Sweet, I’ll have to check out versions post 1.1. When I’ve seriously cut back my current game back log, that is.

  • James Day commented on the blog post Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe   4 months, 2 weeks ago · View

I’ve been considering checking this out for a long time but I’m worried I won’t ever want to go back to the original.

Last time I checked, you needed a version of TT installed before you could use OTTD. Is that still the case?

“The weather outside might be frightful…”

The irony is incredible. Thanks Mother Nature.

  • James Day wrote a new blog post: Mother – Snowman   4 months, 2 weeks ago · View

ThumbnailThe Mother/Earthbound series features dozens of outstanding compositions that I could easily induct into to the Musical Showcase vault. But given the current time of year let’s zero in on an enduring winter themed classic. Though the Mother series sports a long, winding yet unique history (that I thoroughly recommend reading up on) here’s the cliff [...]
