At this current moment I’m seated in front of a posessed Macbook Pro with one Daniel O’Dwyer brandishing a sword behind me. The inflatable Dragon Age branded sword isn’t dangerous, but it does have a rather horrible stench and he keeps waving it around my nostrils, so for the sake of my health I’ll do what he says and post a blog, NOW! This one is going to be short, I haven’t had time to sort through my thoughts so forgive me if it makes no sense.
Overall Gamescom was great fun, this is my first time in Germany and also my first big event. Until now PlayStation Experience and ECTS were the only noteworthy events I had attended, so I did experience a bit of a sensory overload at first – which was cool.
The first thing I noticed on day one was the amount of importance games I usually describe as ‘bullshit’ hold in Germany, the sheer amount of crappy free to play MMO games (CFTPMMOG) was incredible. What was more amazing was that these weren’t being ignored, maybe this is me being a conference noob and people at these kinds of events just play everything on show, but I saw quite a few lines for random bullshit WoW knock-offs. Initially I thought maybe I should give these CFTPMMOG games a shot, there’s obviously something to them, but I think the more sensible approach is to dismiss those German gamers as ‘crazy fools with too much time on their hands’ – I can do that right?
The rest of the time at Gamescom was spent frantically running around recording videos, playing games and meeting new important-ish journo people. Although I didn’t get a chance to play everything I wanted to I’m not going to complain, I played a few really cool titles that are still quite far from release and also played some upcoming games and walked away with a new opinion. Highlights from the show include Kinect and Move (obviously), Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions, Enslaved and Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom – more on those soon.
So that’s a quick forced blogpost, I’ll save the details for another post, when I’ll have recovered from the last few days and therefore will be more motivated, willing and on a computer that doesn’t randomly switch to other screens or decide it wants to close the browser before giving you the chance to save your work. Apple MacBook Pro laptops don’t like Pepsi Max poured onto them – WHO KNEW? If you don’t hear from me in the next few days, assume Danny has killed me and take a contract out on him, I promise to pay you handsomely in the next life.

That crappy free to play MMO hall was a weird place.
CFTPMMOG? Is that an official term, Tamoor?
