Blood Bowl Update – Round Six

Welcome back sports fans.

Damn and blast it all. I’m done. Red Dwarf is done. Not with a bang, but a grunt, as we ground out a draw against The Dwarrowdelf Beers this round. Jon has clearly started to get the hang of playing Dwarves and I… well, I bottled it. I had a lot of hope and honour riding on the last few games in the league. The Red Dwarf needed a proper, honest win to buck things up and get some more points on the table and maybe grab the ghost of a chance of making the play-offs. But it wasn’t to be.

The Beers proved to be solid opponents in the end. In the first half Red Dwarf took them apart and bludgeoned their way through for a touchdown and I was ecstatic. All I needed to do was dig in and hold things down in the second half and I’d take home the points. Which I then failed to do. A risky play and a few stupid mistakes later, Jon nabbed possession and powered home for a touchdown of his own in the last phases of the game. I was gutted. It may have ended in a tie, but it felt like I’d snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Which means Red Dwarf are now getting comfortable in the doldrums of the league with the Beers and The Walkovers as the rest of the pack wrestle about to ensure their play-off spot. Here are the results from Round 6 in full:

Red Dwarf IV 1-1 The Dwarrowdelf Beers

Scarpering Scalies 2-0 The Walkovers

Asmo’s Anklebreakers 0-2 Goats of Wrath

The Magic Dinosaurs 4-2 Wunch O’ Bankers

I promised hot Dwarf on Dwarf action last time, and I don’t wish to disappoint, so you’ll find the match video of my latest game below. Learn from my mistakes.

The next round, the seventh, will be the last round of general play, after which the top four teams move into the play-off finals. Red Dwarf and the Beers are as good as done, and will probably end up being joined by the Bankers or the Anklebreakers on the sidelines. The Dinosaurs’ thrashing of the Bankers this round has further cemented their position on the top of the table. Neo’s Lizards have been all but unstoppable the whole season, with the Scalies and Goats both putting in strong showings too. Here’s the league table as we go into the final round:

Next time, I’ll have the final match report and video as Red Dwarf try to put some dents in the Goats before the play-off. Wish me luck.
