The league is go!
After a bit of confusion over participating teams (and one erstwhile participant having to drop out due to other time commitments) the Citizen Gamebowl Winter 2010 is in full swing. We have seven active teams and one stand-in to make up the numbers. Blood Bowl leagues need to be composed of an even number of teams, but any coach facing stand-ins The Walkovers will get an automatic 2-0 victory to avoid any hassle.
I’ve got one game under my belt. My team, Red Dwarf IV, faced off against coach Asmogasm’s Dark Elf team Asmo’s Anklebreakers and came away with a 1-1 draw. Things did not start well for my dwarves as I lost the toss and had to kick off to the elves. If there’s one thing dwarves don’t want to do it’s hand possession to someone else, as they’re slow to maneuovre and not the best at closing down an enemy ball carrier. Elves can also be fiendishly fast and Asmo put this to good use in the first half by darting through my line for a touchdown in the first half.
However, Red Dwarf did manage to pound a significant portion of the Anklebreakers into the ground. At one point early in the second half six of Asmo’s players were down and out, five unconscious and one badly hurt. That’s half of the team. Thanks to that, my dwarves were able to force a break and push on for a touchdown late in the second half. With Asmo’s diminished numbers I’d hoped for a quick turnover and the chance at a second score, but he spent the rest of the match keeping the ball and his elves as far away from my slower dwarves as he could, possibly to avoid further injuries.
I’d love to post the results for the rest of round one, but developers Cyanide have taken all their mulitplayer servers off-line until the 26th October to accomodate the release of Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition. Which is very, very annoying, seeing as how we’d just gotten things rolling. Current results and outstanding fixtures below. We’ll get things going again before October is out.
Red Dwarf IV 1-1 Asmo’s Anklebreakers
Goats of Wrath 2-0 The Walkovers
The Magic Dinosaurs x-x The Dwarrowdelf Beers
Wunch O’ Bankers x-x Scarpering Scalies

Maybe I should have saved money for some subs. I had banked on my witch elves doing more than having their pretty backsides kicked about.
@Mark
To be honest Mark, that’s mild in Blood Bowl.
“five unconscious and one badly hurt.” Sounds like a bloodbath.
