It’s the return of the return of the return of Weekend Reading. Or something. The point is, it’s back. Every week (well, I say every, and there I was just making another joke about how irregular this feature is prone to being. What am I like, eh?) we hastily cobble together a smorgasbord of delicious links to the things what we think you should read, and such. So read ‘em, otherwise my fifteen minutes of effort will have gone to waste.
- Deus Ex 3 news is everywhere again as we pass another embargo milestone. People more fortunate and talented than me have been playing it and have now been able to dish on the game’s first level and how it feels to play. Rock, Paper, Shotgun have some nice pieces here, here and here, including an interview with Human Revolution’s lead writer. Anyone else stupidly excited for this?
- Treyarch community manager Josh Olin had a good old moan about what he sees as the biggest problem facing the games industry today. Can you guess what it is? It’s some of the customers apparently. Still probably stinging from the backlash Call of Duty: Black Ops is still suffering through, Olin says that developers trying new and innovative things are getting burned by contrarion fans and snarky pundits. So, no danger of that affecting Treyarch then.
- Minecraft is awesome, I think we can universally agree (and if you don’t, you can go stand in the corner). Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw, infamous Zero Punctuation curmudgeon, has got a few tips on how the game can be improved, however. And I can’t say I disagree with a single one of his points.
- If you’ve ever played any game online ever, you’ve probably been trash-talked by some douchebag or other. If you’ve been particularly unfortunate, you may have even been sent abuse after the game is over. And if you’re having a particular bad day, you may have been stalked online and asked to show someone your genitals or put their genitals in your mouth. If you’re a girl gamer, you experience all of this on a regular basis, and new blog Fat, Ugly or Slutty has set out to name and shame the type of cretins responsible for such abuse. Internet justice at its best, or could it all go horribly wrong?

I must admit I always enjoy these posts.
However I was hoping on the last point you brought up this will be confined predominantly to the Xbox360. Unfortunately I was dismayed to see that there were plenty of people from the PC player base in there.
Sweet. Exactly what I needed after a holiday. Shall read these during the day.
I’m getting a little excited for Deux Ex 3. I’m trying to keep away from all the hype BS but boy this game is looking good.
