GTA Vice City set for Android and iOS release

Posted November 22, 2012 by Richard Plant in Editorial

Rockstar have announced that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the 80s mayhem simulator which came out ten years ago this month, will be appearing on Apple and Google mobile stores this Decmeber 6. Not only will players be getting the full speedboat-and-chopper-wielding adventures of Tommy Vercetti, but we’re promised a new version with plenty of whizzo special effects for the benefit of your eyeballs.

“This 10th Anniversary Edition brings the full experience of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City to mobile devices, with native high-resolution graphics and several enhancements unique to the iOS and Android platforms,” reads the press release. “Including updated character models and lighting effects, new and more precise firing and targeting options, a fully customisable control layout and native support for Retina display devices.”

If you’re wondering just why people are getting so excited about the release of a decade-old game on the even-smaller-screen, here’s a gentle 8-bit reminder:

Vice City will be available from both the iOS and Google Play stores. While the US versions will both cost $4.99, iOS owners in the UK will pay £2.99 and Android-ettes will be stumping up £3.72. Typical.

I’ve never been hot on mobile GTA releases ever since that awful Chinatown Wars. Hopefully this is going to change my mind.

I’m looking forward to be on the 6th December and testing GTA Vice City on mobile while i’m waiting for GTA V on ps3 !!!

Touch screen controls seem terrible for the 3D GTA games. If they remastered the PC versions I’d be interested.
