Final Hawken closed beta live

Posted November 20, 2012 by Richard Plant in Editorial

Upcoming free-to-play mech combat title Hawken is now in the final closed beta testing phase before open beta, which is currently slated for December 12. And since it’s a free-to-play game, I think I’ll just go ahead and consider that its release date.

Hawken is from all accounts shaping up to be a team-based multiplayer shooter with customisable giant robots and some limited base-building play. For the work of a tiny indie developer (only nine employees!), the world looks intriguingly detailed and coherent. Gameplay trailer attached for your visual deconstruction below.

Apparently, if you’ve been part of any previous closed beta event, you won’t have to re-download anything, just fire up the launcher and play straight away. Which is nice. This current event will last until December 6, so you’ll have plenty of time to work out whether it’s worth your investment of zero pounds.

Any of you lucky folk who’ve picked up keys from our giveaway still have time to redeem them for use in this event. Well, what are you waiting for, maggot?
