The Citizen Soapbox is an area where we throw out topics to the users of Citizen Game. When we record a podcast we take the soapbox comments and use them in our own discussions. We think it’s a great way of involving you guys in our stupid arguments!
The Setup:
So enough time has passed between now and e3 to allow the latest batch of Kinect & Move information to settle in your mind. We want to know what you think of the FUTURE OF GAMING. Has the crazy future-madness of last years e3 fallen flat on it’s face, or is there promise in the tech?
The Questions:
What do you think of Playstation Move?
How about Kinect for Xbox 360?
Will third party publishers take the risk?
Or are we destined to Wii shovelware on the Xbox and PS3?
Will you beat the shit out of Skittles?
Will Move actually have any games?

Multiple, changeable colours. Just like condoms really.

1. For me the better of the two… and by a long way. Sony knows that Nintendo have grabbed the casual market and have it by the balls. So, they release games that don’t just involve siting on the sofa after spending 1/2 an hour standing slowly realising all is needed is a flick of the wrist. It’s looking like the Table Tennis part for ‘Sports Champions’ actually needs skill to progress. This might be an answer to one of the gamers’ favorite questions. Can you learn from a game?
2. This… hmmmmm. The stage demos look like they may have been pre-recorded, journalists have said the responses are slow and, the games… my goodness. When Kinect was first announced under the name ‘Project Natal’ with Milo, which was made by Peter Moleneux (who I think is one of the best games designers of this generation), one of my friends immediately piped up with ‘why do you want a virtual friend?’ This sums up Microsofts attempt at Motion Control. It’s a gimmick. No question about it. You can play with a dog/tiger for goodness sake. How long will that last? About as long as EyePet. For all those that say it’s the most original. Move is Wii in 6 axis rather than 4 and Kinect is Playstation Eye in 6 axis rather than 4. Oh, and one other thing: 150>100+game. Maths solves everything.
3. They seem to be… a bit… sort of. They do seem to be falling into the Sony camp. I read a report on Gamespot saying Natal was hard to programme on and Move was a lot easier.
4. Well so far looking like maybe not? Maybe?
5. I would but I like dogs… Hold on a second.
6. Sorcery is actually looking quite good, I think. As does SOCOM 4, the previous one being bad because of the internet apparently. So, a big maybe.
Kinect was obvously staged and i cant think of any other third party publishers besides eidos and ubisoft.I cant go near skittles since i have no xbox, so il remain kicking around eyepet.Move will have heavy rain but i cant see anybody going back to that after just completing it,especially when the trailer has a couple playing it, half the gaming population dont have girlfriends!
After a hard days work, I just want to sit on my arse and play some games, can’t be bothered waving my arms about like a tit either with a magic want or in front of some camera that doesn’t work when I sit down anyway. That was the reason why I will always favour the xbox and ps3 over the wii. Its an epic fail if you ask me, and will enjoy the moderate flash-in-the-pan success that the eyetoy did.
i think move will sale more
The PS Move–or as I like to call it Ball on a Stick– to me is a gloried Wii Mote. It’s doing things that the Wii can do in HD. Ultimately, after almost four years with the Wii, I can fully say that I don’t like that control setup. Plus, upwards of a hundred bones for the controller, a camera, and a game is ridiculous.
I like the Kinect because it’s different. I though the dancing game looking really cool, and Children of Eden look fucking sweet. While of course there is the sports game, that ultimately needs to be there because people buy it. Kinect will evolve while the PS Ball on a Stick will not.
I can’t wait to play Carnival Games HD in 6 months.
P.s
Do not want what looks like a sex toy lying around my living room when people who aren’t into games at all come around
“Oh look….Sony do vibrators now…”
Both Microsoft and Sony have been mutually behind the Wii in terms of sales and success this generation
They’re both trying to cash in on this, though in my opinion they’re two years too late, If these had been released even a year ago, they’d see much more success.
I really don’t care about it them, they seem gimicky and cheap. If you want to flap around like an idiot, just buy a Wii which has 4 years of people getting used to making games for it, not a peripheral that will cost the same as one.
Tl:dr
Fucking retarded controllers are retarded.
What do you think of Playstation Move?
From what I’ve seen, it looks like a refined version of the wiimote, the games and the technology look a lot better than when the wii first came out, though we would expect that. If what I’ve watched comes true, then the Move will be great.
How about Kinect for Xbox 360?
I love the new Kinect, using your body as a controller looks fantastic and being able to navigate menus through hand movements and voice control sounds fantastic, Kinect Joyride will be the first game I try as I have been interested in that since it was announced. I only hope it works sitting down, or I’m fucked.
Will third party publishers take the risk?
Or are we destined to Wii shovelware on the Xbox and PS3?
Third party publishers will want to see how the technology sells, if both pieces of tech sell well, then third party interest will increase. If not, then we will be forced to play stupid first party games such as Kinectimals.
Will you beat the shit out of Skittles?
Why would I want to pay £40 to beat the crap out of a fake tiger when there are cheaper alternatives, i.e. beating the crap out of a cuddly toy, no emotions but far cheaper.
Will Move actually have any games?
There better be, otherwise Sony have made a fucking huge mistake, I could imagine them sitting in the board room “We have controllers, PS3, ……. where are games?”
