The Citizen Soapbox is an area where we throw out topics to the users of Citizen Game. When we record the podcast on Sunday night we take the previous week’s Soapbox answers and use them in our own discussions. We think it’s a great way of involving you guys in our stupid arguments!
The Setup:
Christians are pretty crap at giving stuff up. By biblical law they shouldn’t eat meat on Fridays, work on Sundays or have sex before marriage and lets be honest most of us spend the weekend eating burgers, finishing last weeks work and shagging! Yesterday was Shrove ‘pancake’ Tuesday when Christians around the world eat a load of fried batter and give up somthing they would never eat/do anyway untill Easter. I can’t see any of you giving up games for 40 days, but what about a single genre.
The Question
It’s lent and you have to give up one genre of game (probably the one you never play anyway).
- So what genre of games would you give up for Lent 2010?
- While your at it tell us what genre could you never give up?

I'll never give up forklift simulation games. Never!

If i am honest its the RTS genre for me. I am crap at it and playing almost any RTS games (with the exception of the total war series) just reminds me how ball achingly stupid i am at these titles.
CloakRaider: “I could very easily give up the MMORPG genre, as I refuse to accept that Eve Online fits into this”
You are like the alcoholic that claims beer doesn’t count when he’s trying to quit.
If I really wanted to give up something meaningful and stick to the point of lent I could give up puzzle games. But I do oh so enjoy Dr Mario and Bejewelled twist on my DSi.
I could give up any game released in the past 5 years and hardly notice, which is abit sad on my part.
Not due to lent but common sense. I’m going to give up buying songs for Rock band. I’ve not played RB this year yet I’ve bough 5 to 10 songs.
Disney themed music games, those Jonas Brothers…so dreamy.
Don’t think I could give up games of any kind for Lent. Currently 30 hours into Mass Effect 2 and loving every minute of it, with bayonetta, gears of War, Fifa 10 Guitar Hero 2 and 4 all on the back burner because of this. I’ll stick to giving up the chocolate.
I love online games like mw2 and wow but i need to give them up so I can play more hack n slash games like dantes inferno, god of war 3 and the gta4 dlc that is set to come out on the ps3 by march
I could give up racing games very easily, yet could never give up FPS.
I need to give up my worrying trend of buying games without finishing the ones I’m currently playing.
I could easily give up any game that stars a blue hedgehog, and that forces me to watch a story progress where the said hedgehog is sleeping with a human.
My Hentai based games though like Rape Lay or Sexy Beach 3; I can’t live without.
Can I give up sports games? I haven’t touched my copy of Fifa ’96 in some time so I’m not sure if that’s a fair choise.
Otherwise hack ‘n’n slash has to go. Now I know GoW3 is a gnats erection away from release but after completing four of these blasted games just six weeks into the year I could really live without another for a while.
I could very easily give up the MMORPG genre, as I refuse to accept that Eve Online fits into this.
Im gonna say footy games or online FPS’s would be impossible to quit. I would have no problem “quitting” MMORPGs or JRPGs. Even racing games I dont play much anymore.
* I meant “I think there are 2 genres…”
I don’t have the most willpower in the world so I’ll give up something I don’t really use anyway. I’ll give up my Wii (Oh snap!)
The think there are 2 genres I couldn’t live without; action adventures (eg. Uncharted 2) and F1 racing sims. I’d be upset without footie games too, but I reckon I’d just about cope with that loss!
