The Citizen Soapbox is an area where we throw out topics to the users of Citizen Game. When we record the podcast on Sunday night we take the previous week’s Soapbox answers and use them in our own discussions. We think it’s a great way of involving you guys in our stupid arguments!
The Setup:
As you may have heard on this weeks Citizen Gamecast, I had a bit of an exploding projector problem over the weekend and had to buy a new HD TV. Already the switchover has dramatically impacted my gaming habits; my PS3 has awoken from SD purgatory. On next weeks Gamecast were going to talk about how your setup impacts your gaming.
The Question:
How do you play your games? Does your PC have 12 monitors?
Do you have a tiny CRT television, or a 200 inch projection screen?
Do you wear headphones or play with 5.1 surround?
What room is your games machine in, and does this impact when you can play?

If you play Warcraft as much as these guys, your ass probably need a chair that large

LCD TV, LCD Monitor.
I got LCD’s for days, son!
As a omni-gamer i have a compact rig. My Samsung 22 inch monitor is at the heart of everything. At the back of it there are leads going to my PC, PS2 and Xbox 360. My second monitor is PC only.
Keyboard is a Logitech G15 gaming keyboard and mouse is a Nova Slider X 600 both having ergonomic wrist pads for support.
My chair is some piece of rubbish I got cheap from staples. Thats the only cheap thing about my rig.
The only problem is that my Desk, were this all sits, is a mess.
a 22″ HD samsung monitor 2 feet awy form me in the most comfortable chair ever and a 5.1 seinheiser headset. the traditional, and only way to game.
Also, I play in my basement so I basically can play whenever I want since no one but me comes down there.
I have a 40, inch sony bravia, I have my Wii ps3 set up 2 it, all sitting on a stylish set of shelves with my videogame action figures around it in countless crazy positions love the show been listenin from the start never submitted anything, keep up the good work
PC gaming junkie over here.
I’m rocking two monitors first of all, a delicious 26″ Samsung as my primary and an older, smaller Dell one on the right that generally plays host to my Twitter feed, IM programs and other bits and pieces.
My PC is something I try and upgrade once every two years. Right now I’m packing a Q6600 cpu, HD4850 gfx card and 4Gb of RAM, with a terabyte of storage across two drives and a second terabyte of back up storage on an external drive. The case is a super sexy (and super cheap) CM690 from Coolermaster. Oh, and Windows 7 as my OS of choice.
I love it to bits, but I’m already fantasizing about new parts to buy next year.
(Oh, and I do enjoy my 360 Elite on occasion too.)
So right now I have a bookshelf right next to a 56′ (I think) Sony T.V. While it’s not a flat-screen, it’s a good sized tube that does 1080p beautifully. The Wii and 360 take up the bottom shelf of the bookshelf. Above that are some PC games, second to top are Wii games, and top are 360. Opposite of that are my couch and a coffee table. The couch is usually where I sit, and on the coffee table I place things like my controller or some cider.
I’m also really disappointed because I can’t think of a way to dirty this post up too.

I’ve added a PS3 up there since then as well as a few other pieces of networking equipment.
I use an IMB mouse and keyboard combo I stole from bins when I was working in an office, and my 19″ monitor doesn’t do my potent powerhouse of a PC justice.
My parents won the chair I sit on in an auction from a courthouse. It’s pretty uncomfortable, and is frequently padded with hoodies for support in my lumbar region.
My gaming setup is changing right now, I’ll save it for the podcast
40′ Samsung with XBox attached.
17″ lappie for games and macbook pro for others(i.e. FM)
30″ oldish crt telly in room for nighttime gaming i.e. in bed
37″ Toshiba Regza hooked up to my PS3/X360 with a Pioneer 5.1 surround sound system.
Don’t know the technical details without trying to find the manuals.
I have a 42 inch HD Panasonic with my 360 hooked up to.
I have a 16 inch gaming laptop that im currently running Torchlight on.
The centrepiece of my set-up is a 32″ Samsung HDTV. I’ve got both my 360 and my PC plugged into that.
It’s fine for the Xbox, but it makes using the PC a bit awkward… currently I sit cross-legged on the ground, back agains the couch, and keyboard/mouse on the coffee table. Also, using something like Photoshop when you’re sitting 6 or 7 feet away from a 1920* res screen is a pain, as everything is tiny.
I’m moving house to an apartment with an actual desk in my room at the weekend, so I might spring for a separate monitor for the PC after Christmas.
Basically Right now my xbox 360, Wii and PS3 fat are sitting connected to my 40″ Sony Bravia, love that screen. But it’s a basic setup no wall mounted saucyness or anything.
My PC area isn’t the world’s greatest, I’m gaming in the hall. It is a pretty meaty machine though even if a year or so old and running vista, the screen is a cheap acer 22″ but for the size of the area it fits in nicely and I’ve been happy with performance.
Then (Cribs style) on to where the magic happens, I have my new slim PS3 hooked up to a 22″ Samsung, but it’s mostly gathering dust, as one thing you can’t legislate for is how quickly a rabbit will eat through a power lead or HDMI cable.
My setup is in the main living area in my apartment, so its quite remarkable that my girlfriend and I don’t argue over the TV!
My systems all run on a 32″ 1080p Samsung TV. At the moment I have a 360, PS3, Wii and Dreamcast connected to the TV.
My PC was top of the line about 3 years ago but I haven’t upgraded since. Should be sorting that out in the next few months though, because I’m mad jealous of my brother’s dual screen setup which includes a 22″ HD TV and runs on the most powerful DX10 card on the market.
Since I got the TV ive been able to play games with the blinds open. Sounds rediculous, but before if i wanted to play I had to (a) wait for it to turn dark or (b) close all the blinds & windows in the room
Choice (b) usually made it very hot, so I’d wear less clothes and just sit there all sweaty like a really unhealthy social outcast.
Also my PS3 has gotten much more use, now that I can finally use its HD goodness via HDMI. Played a load of Little Big Planet with my girlfriend, and bought “The Last Guy” on Denis’s recomendation. Rented and watched a HD version of Watchmen too.
Also since getting my shiny new sexy mac I’ve been spending a lot less time using my PC because I find Windows so clunky. Cannot believe I haven’t bought L4D2 yet. Blame Apple.
