Unsung Games 2009
The Citizen Soapbox is an area where we throw out topics to the users of Citizen Game. When we record the podcast on Sunday night we take the previous week’s Soapbox answers and use them in our own discussions. We think it’s a great way of involving you guys in our stupid arguments!
The Setup:
It’s that time of year when we all start thinking about our games of the year. Far more enjoyable though, is talking about the games we played that weren’t million sellers. The games that sold well, reviewed okay, but touched you in a special way (not that way!).
The Question:
What are special games of 2009 that you feel more people should have played?
In other words; what was your favourite unsung game of 2009?

"Indy game 'AndYetItMoves' was among my favourite games of the year" - Danny

I mean cod world at war wii edition if it even makes a difference now
A hard choice for me, I didn’t really play any unsung games, and neither did I play many sung games either.
Choice for me was Burnout Paradise, Red Faction Guerilla, Prototype and Plants Vs Zombies.
That’s really all I played this year. Saints Row could be on the list, but I haven’t played it enough yet, and I’ve got lag issues, so…
PSN was excellent last year. Shatter and Comet Crash are high on my list of unsung gems, though Trials HD was my favorite downloadable game overall.
Shattered Horizon and DiRT 2 on the PC. Not entirely sure why people still prefer Turn 10 or Polyphony Digital over Codemasters’ Racing Studio.
That ’s some rare insight, johny66.
I swear its getting worse. I don’t know what I did to deserve the last insult. An Arsenal player? The nerve! F.Y.I. I don’t even follow football.
I care to say that the Tales of monkey island game are being missed by many. The re make was even better.
Tell tale are launching the adventure series all over again. People should stand up and take notice!
I care also to think that Brutal Legend may be on the unsung side. I think many people looked into the game and were put off. Please don’t let history repeat itself!
Alot of people did not think it is a great idea to port the game but nobody i know gives a shit about graphics or controls,as long as its fun for the people who are playing it.People are still playing ocerina of time because they have with it.It does not matter how old it is.Most new games that came out this year were not worth wiping your ass with, such as rogue warrior[END OF RANT]
I’m sure everyone is aware of my love for noby noby boy so i wont go on about it.
a huge candidate for unsung game of the year has to be Trash Panic.
Some of you people have a strange definition of “unsung”… not mentioning any Tamoors, name!
Oh, as if i hadn’t said it enough – I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1
I really loved inFAMOUS and i actually think it was unsung, it had the misfortune of coming out around the same time as Prototype, which kind of stole some of the attention away from inFAMOUS. While Prototype felt offensively generic and generally uninteresting, inFAMOUS had a really cool story, great characters and a really fun traversal mechanic.
Also felt that League of Legends was really cool, it was my first experience with the ‘Defence of the Ancients’ style of gameplay and I enjoyed it quite a bit, even more since it was and still is free to download.
Yea I didn’t play too many games off the radar this year. Splosion man I thought was excellent. An increasing level of difficulty throughout with great old school mechanics.
Had a mate around the house then I decided to show it to him in Multiplayer only to discover that there were completely different level designs in multiplayer and challenge to work in tandem was epic.
Turns out the game is twice the game I thought it was and is brilliant in Multiplayer. Shouting and screaming at each other for making a mistake while supping down the beers is the future for me.
I didn’t think there were many, if something’s “unsung” according to one person it might not be according to another so it’s quite subjective. I think if a game is “unsung” usually it’s theirown fault, full of bugs etc, not good, or just not proper marketing and advertising done for it.
in my opinion Tekken 6 and dj Hero went relatively under the Radar.
“The game alot of people didnt play was call of duty 4 reflex edition for the wii it basically is cod 4 with less graphical detail. It has the online mode with every game mode in there and extra challenges.Give it go!”
two year old game that looks worse…played with a wiimote…? Why would anyone buy that?
Dirt 2, Splosion Man, Chinatown Wars, and Ballad of Gay Tony.
I like sploding, dancing in gay nightclubs, getting my car dirty, and listening.
Trine, Wii Punch out, Plants vs. Zombies and Tropico 3 are all great games that came out this year that I feel went by without most people noticing.
Defiantly AYIM and Torchlight.
The game alot of people didnt play was call of duty 4 reflex edition for the wii it basically is cod 4 with less graphical detail. It has the online mode with every game mode in there and extra challenges.Give it go!
Zombie Apocalypse. It’s fun, silly, violent, long, multi-player, rock hard… and only a tenner!
Wipeout Fury: Some gimmicky additions, but made the best racer on the PS3 even better.
Trials HD definitely deserves more fanfare than it’s received so far. Probablythe most “moreish” addictive game this year.
I can’t remember how many times I must have said “just one more go” and then played for another hour!
I’ll start the ball rolling with Skate 2, Crayon Physics Deluxe, AndYetItMoves and Osmos
