Games of Christmas Past
The Citizen Soapbox is an area where we throw out topics to the users of Citizen Game. When we record the podcast on Sunday night we take the previous week’s Soapbox answers and use them in our own discussions. We think it’s a great way of involving you guys in our stupid arguments!
The Setup:
It’s mid December, Christmas is nearly upon us, the time of the year where we all come together to pray to our Gods, throw snow and spend money on crap. Over the years you’ve filled your wish lists with games & consoles of all shapes and sizes and we want to know what was the best game you ever recieved on December 25th.
The Question:
What was the best game /console you ever received for Christmas?

Jesus was famously gifted frankincense, myrrh and 1200 Microsoft Points

Best ever for my has to be when I came down to the sitting room xmas mornin to the presents santa got me, but there was a box on the sofa in a black plastic bag… unlike the other nicely wrapped things… so i didn’t think it was mine, so after awhile of course curiosity got the better of me, so i went and ask my rents about the box. They said the usual “oh well it wasn’t there when we went to bed, quick go have a look…” lol bolted back to the sitting room to rip open the bag… hello Mr. Super Nintendo. Was the best thing ever
I got Masters of Tera Kasi. The best fighting game of all time.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on the PS1.
I was 8 at the time, and I thought it was fantastic.
Film/game tie ins are usually atrocious I know, but this one hell wasn’t… well in my opinion anyway.
The most fondest memory of that game I can remember when it was christmas in the game. Ah, good times.
OK so far i have been called ‘a bit racist’ and possibly American so lets see if this gets any worse.
A while ago I got a Dreamcast from my folks. It contained my 2 favorite games for it. Sonic and Chu Chu Rocket!
These days tho there is a darker side of this. As i know that i am going to get games for Christmas i cant go out and buy any. So i am banned from buying Assassins Creed 2. So glad that a bunch of great games are coming out in January!
I’ve a fond memory of playing Theme Hospital on the PC at 4am christmas morning one year long ago.
I got Tony Hawks Underground 2 from my grandparents about 8 years ago. I played that game to death.
I would have to say receiving Both Company of Heroes games as well as Mirrors Edge were the best gaming related presents I’ve received.
Unreal Tournament 3 – an amazing game engine.
I got Rainbox Six: Rogue Spear and a flight-stick for my PC one year. Loved that joystick- played F22 Total Air War on it nonstop.
Most podcast listeners will know about the amiga 600 my girlfriend bought be a few years back, the same packaging as the one I got when I was a kid.
In early 2000 our PSone broke and it was out of warranty so we asked my parents to get us a new one for Christmas.
Instead, my dad went and queued for hours to buy us a PS2 at launch and then he hid it until Christmas when he gave it to us as a rather awesome surprise.
He even chose the best launch games for us, FIFA 2001 and SSX.
My favourite game I recieved for cristmas was theme park 3d for the ps1,now on the playstation store, but its lost its feel since then, the game had about ten themes, even though i got to the third one {fantasy land} i was still a game i would willingly play for hours and hours with no memory card.
